TAMU NAPCON Games Cup at the Texas A&M University was a success
Press release / 31 May 2019
Neste Engineering Solutions’ NAPCON team hosted the TAMU NAPCON Games Cup at the Texas A&M University in April 2019 for 150 Chemical Engineering students.
The NAPCON Distiller game, a new gamified simulation-training tool was used for three rounds in the Cup. The first round was played individually, the second one in a team and then the final round in the same teams as the second round. Through playing in teams, students could incorporate teamwork into the competition. These students graduate this spring and teamwork skills are essential in real working life. The students played excellently and got top scores.
The Cup was a success and the NAPCON team received great feedback from the students: “I found the gamified simulation very engaging and fun. It helps to reinforce the theory we have learned in books in an easy to see interface as well as to create a connection to more real world processes and disturbances.”
“I like this gamified simulation. It is a low-stakes and fun opportunity to better understand distillation and the kind of upsets that happen in industrial settings. I see it very useful to our students or generally anyone entering to the industry to practice real-life phenomena in a simulation such as this”, says J. Douglas White, P.E., Senior Lecturer, Texas A&M University, Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering.
100% of the students found the gamified simulation engaging, interactive, educational and fun. 79% said that they learned something new regarding distillation through the game or at least that it strengthened their knowledge.
“Thank you all for your enthusiastic participation and great replies on the survey regarding our gamified simulation. They will help us in developing our products further. It is good to see how well this gamified simulation was received among the final year Chemical Engineering students at Texas A&M, which is a very highly appreciated university in its field. We are honored to be able to have this cooperation with this prestigious university”, says Mika Neffling, Sales Manager, NAPCON.
