Smoothest NAPCON Distiller competition at Neste Singapore marks the launch of a new way to have ready-to-operate operator

Neste Singapore launched their new competence development scheme by finding the Smoothest Distiller of the site. The new training scheme includes NAPCON games and e-learning as key tools to ensure a thorough understanding of the principles of process technology. The Singapore expansion project is bringing new personnel to the company and has increased the need for a unified learning path for all operators. Developing and maintaining operators’ knowledge and skills is at the core of success for all operating companies.
The Smoothest Distiller competition was arranged to encourage the entire Singapore organization to develop and test their skills by challenging each other in the competition.“The Neste Singapore organization was inspired by the online NAPCON Games. During the competition, there were more than 2500 games played, 155 new high scores set and a total of 463 hours spent developing the knowledge and skills needed in the process industry today,” says Tommi Leppänen, Competence Developer of Singapore Expansion Project – Core Team, Neste.
Gamified learning enables trial and error based learning for panel operators in the process industry where the demand for a skilled workforce is increasing due to a retirement wave. Tommi Leppänen, Competence Developer within the expansion project core team says: “Today within the process industry, instead of only knowing how to do things it is utmost important to understand why something is happening, where it will affect and what are the consequences of the actions. What is needed, is the understanding of the underlying phenomena, which ensures that the knowledge and skills can be utilized in different types of situations. We have incorporated the NAPCON Games into our learning path for all our operating personnel. This will keep the basic knowledge and skill level of our operators high and (it will) future-proof our skill pool by teaching the underlying principles of the chemical processes. We care that our difference makers have the opportunity to succeed in their challenging work.”
